The Role

The Inventory Controller plays a crucial role in warehouse operations by managing and performing all inventory control activities and various OSI Supply Chain functions which may include but is not limited to receiving, warehousing, shipping, and expediting, all while prioritizing a safe work environment. The incumbent is responsible for setting-up and maintaining the integrity of the inventory management system, this includes keeping accurate and up-to-date computerized inventory records of physical assets to ensure completeness and correctness. They support Production through coordinating and/or completing the fulfilment of work orders, partner with Production Planners to execute project material transfers, and optimize the warehouse standard operating procedures and physical infrastructure. This role also works with Shipping and Receiving to inspect, accept, verify, count, and record incoming and outgoing shipments ensuring conformance with purchase order and sales orders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work with Warehouse Operations Manager to develop the company's inventory management strategy.
  • Be accountable for the integrity and accuracy of the stock management system.
  • Develop, maintain, and support the enforcement of procedures for all inventory control processes and functions.
  • Demonstrate a leadership mindset by mentoring and influencing peers in a positive manner.
  • Ensure mistakes, inaccuracies and discrepancies are addressed, and resolved, exploring root causes and corrective action plans.
  • Implement improvement processes and systems to reduce inventory errors, minimize costs and maximize working capital.
  • Manage and maintain the company's stock profiles and stock locations in its ERP system.
  • Manage and control perpetual inventory stock counting, inventory accuracy checks, and cycle counts.
  • Work with all stakeholders to minimize overstocks and to disposition obsolete and redundant materials to maximize availability of working capital.
  • Oversee and perform the kitting for work orders and ensure correct allocation, issued inventory, and fully completed work orders as a result.
  • Ensure incoming materials are put away according to project requirements.
  • Actively participate in the development of shortage reporting and fulfillment activities for production orders.
  • Participate in the Material Review Board meetings and manage the inventory transfers within this process.
  • Be responsible for managing and running annual physical inventory and ongoing cycle counts.
  • Work with the Warehouse Operations Manager, and other stakeholders to address space constraints and provide input into future warehousing requirements.
  • Oversee and performs the transfer of inventory ensuring it is being performed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Updates the inventory database concerning shipments and receipts, warehouse transfers, and adjustments.
  • Assists Receiver, where necessary, to record, tag and inventory all customer-owned goods.
  • Supports and may lead improvement projects to reduce inventory, minimize costs and maximize working capital.
  • Ensures inventory locations are organized, locked, and secured, at all times.
  • Works with Planners to prioritize job picking.
  • Assists the Shipping/Receiving functions during times of limited capacity and increased workload which, may include but is not limited to physical receiving of goods and customer furnished equipment (CFE), packaging goods for shipment, engaging transportation agents and brokers, producing associated paperwork, and entering system transactions.
  • Ensures the adherence to and support of relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Follows workplace operating and environmental, health, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Maintains shop-floor inventory holdings by actively verifying stock-outs and performing replenishment activities.
  • Assists with engineering requests for inspection of items, and ensures warehouse security & safety for visiting engineering staff (PPE is mandatory for all visitors)
  • Ensures that put-away items are labelled correctly and assists with recording stock locations in inventory system.

You Bring

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment and college or university degree in a relevant field or an appropriate mixture of experience and education.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Supply Chain Management best practices, (supply chain management designation preferred), MRP systems, Controlled Goods, Canada or US Customs, NAFTA.
  • Forklift Certification
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP / MRP systems (in particular Epicor) and Excel
  • Practical experience: critical thinking through problems and exercising good judgement.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships and deliver concise and effective communication.
  • May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines.
  • Eligible to obtain government security clearance.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
