Title and Summary

Manager, Legal Compliance Overview

The Business Conduct Office (“BCO”) develops and promotes the policies and trainings grounding Mastercard’s culture of decency including the Code of Conduct, Whistleblower Policy, Non-Retaliation Policy, and Conflicts of Interest Guidelines.

The Conflicts of Interest Center of Excellence (“COE”) is designed to develop a best-in-class approach to analyzing and dispositioning employee conflict disclosures under the Conflicts of Interest Guidelines. As part of the COE, you will review and disposition conflict of interest disclosures, respond to employee conflict-related questions, and assist the COE Leader in driving the strategy and approach for conflicts review. The role reports to the Senior Managing Counsel, BCO.

Role

  • Thoughtfully analyze and disposition conflicts of interest disclosures and independently produce all deliverables in an efficient and expedient manner
  • Own the workflow process including by proactively following up with both employees who have submitted disclosures (“Requestors”) that lack required or necessary information, and with managers who have not promptly provided their recommendations for disclosures submitted by their direct reports, or have incorrectly approved a disclosure that should have been denied
  • Identify complexities within conflict disclosures and work with Requestors and their managers to resolve disclosures in accordance with the principles set for in the Conflicts of Interest Guidelines
  • Assist in COI compliance training
  • When necessary, work across the company to obtain information required to ensure disclosures are dispositioned in alignment with the principles set forth in the Conflicts of Interest Guidelines
  • Communicate clearly with Requestors and managers and provide support when needed or requested
  • Provide accurate and clear advice to employees regarding the requirements of the Conflicts of Interest Guidelines
  • Prepare and present conflicts data by accurately extracting and delivering data, creating related charts, files and presentations
  • Interact and maintain positive working relationships with internal stakeholders including, but not limited to Requestors and their managers
  • Build and maintain a global network of relationships to ensure trust and credibility of the function
  • Develop and update policies and/or procedures as needed and oversee implementation
  • Support other key initiatives driven by the COE as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements and best practices related to conflicts of interest

  • Understanding of laws applicable to a global payments technology company and a U.S. based public corporation preferred
  • Experience developing and managing Compliance policies and procedures
  • Strong data analytic skills with the ability to turn data into knowledge and information
  • Ability to and comfort with working with highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Proven track record of leadership and integrity with demonstrated ability to manage large projects and prioritize appropriately
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, emphasizing drafting and proofreading
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience multi-tasking, managing multiple projects and assignments concurrently, and managing and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Compliance, paralegal, and/or conflicts experience at a financial institution or professional services firm
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Advanced knowledge of conflict-of-interest checking procedures and guidelines

Corporate Security Responsibility

  • Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices;
  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed;
  • Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and
  • Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
