Position Overview

The Server is primarily responsible for the service of food and beverage items to guests in a restaurant, lounge, or patio. The Server assists with the reservation process, greeting and seating of guests, and clearing and resetting of designated areas. This position is responsible for following both company and facility policies and procedures. The Server will promote the Parq Vancouver facility and act as a positive role model and representative of Blau & Associates. The Server continually strives for 100% guest satisfaction.

General Responsibilities

The Server is responsible for:

  • Working in collaboration with other team members and departments to ensure the restaurant, lounge, and patio operates in accordance with established operational procedures.
  • Seating guests, taking/placing orders, preparing specialty items, serving food and beverages, clearing, cleaning, and resetting designated areas.
  • Proper set-up, maintenance, and adherence to scheduled duties, ensuring mise-en-place and par stock is maintained for all service related items.
  • Placing orders through designated POS systems, reviewing final checks, and securing payment.
  • Maintaining a composed and professional demeanor while providing exemplary guest service.
  • Being aware of menu items, menu and operational changes and communicating the information as appropriate.
  • Protecting the organization, guests, and co-workers by adhering to applicable food, liquor safety, and workplace standards, operational requirements, and statutory compliance regulations.

Qualifications

The Server must:

  • Have experience as a Server in a similar environment including a hotel, restaurant, catering, or other fast-paced high-volume establishment.
  • Have valid Serving it Right and Foodsafe Level 1 certificates. Certificates in mixology would be considered an asset.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a GPEB license.
  • Have an excellent command of both spoken and written English. Knowledge of a second language would be considered an asset.
  • Have a good understanding of different cuisines, food preparation methods, beer, wine, liquor, non-alcoholic beverages, common drink recipes and basic food & beverage pairings or accompaniments.
  • Be able to upsell through detailed product knowledge and effectively handle all guest inquiries including food and beverage suggestions, dietary, food sensitivity or allergy requirements.
  • Have solid problem-solving, decision-making, customer service, communication, and sales skills.
  • Accurately operate POS terminals, debit payment systems, Open Table, and other computerized or electronic systems.
  • Have the ability to handle inventory management, financial transactions, float management, and proper product use to eliminate waste and spillage.
  • This position requires the candidate to obtain a Gaming Worker License (GPEB) upon hire.
