SUMMARY: The Youth Ambassador Program brings forward youth champions representing the various programs within The Link: Youth and Family Supports. These young leaders serve in a team of peers to support outreach, spread awareness about the program and represent the program in communities and schools. Preference is given to youth aged 18-30 to represent the population they are supporting as well as those with an Indigenous background.
Youth Ambassadors also participate in ongoing workshops, training, team building exercises and opportunities to develop skills and leadership competencies. We are currently looking to bring on a Youth Ambassador for the Skills4Life programs that have been created to help youth ages 12-30 develop their life and employment skills, find and maintain housing and participate in volunteering opportunities that will enhance their community.
The Youth Ambassador works alongside a team of staff, volunteer mentors and students to spread awareness about the programs and represent The Link while out in the community in a professional manner.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Commit to learning and developing awareness of the Skills4Life Programs
- Acting as a representative of the Skills4Life Program in the community
- Develop supportive relationships with participants
- Support participants in maintaining tenancy, including: helping with budgeting, support in keeping living space clean, complete applications and forms as needed and effectively communicating with the landlord
- Support participants with conflict resolution, advocacy and linkage with community services
- Take participants to appointments, view apartments, etc.
- Assist with participant move ins and move outs
- Encourage and assist participants in developing their strengths and setting goals
- Communicates concerns or incidents with the staff team immediately
- Transports youth to and from community volunteer activities
- Liaise with community organizations
- Makes links and connections with participants in the community to support their skill development utilizing volunteer work and participant goals
- Follows youth's case plan in the community and makes links between the case plan and community activities with the participant
- Acts as an advocate on behalf of the best interest of the youth, ensuring that their rights are respected
- Acts as a positive role model for youth
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A combination of experience and/or education will be considered.
- Experience working with high-risk youth.
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C, or willingness to obtain.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months.
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
- Crisis De-escalation Training.
- Valid drivers license, acceptable drivers abstract and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Ability to travel within the city of Winnipeg
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an asset.

SALARY RANGE: $18.00 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: 20 to 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday days and evenings with a possibility of working on weekends when operationally required.
