The Information Technology Manager - Alberta reporting to the CIO – Alberta is based in the Sherwood Park location, is responsible for implementing and maintaining First Canadian Insurance organization's technology infrastructure spanning First Canadian Insurance, as well as additional Wheaton Group companies. Businesses rely on a central information processing system to support efficient data management and communications. The Information Technology Manager – Alberta monitors the organization's operational requirements, researches strategies and technology solutions, and builds the most cost-effective and efficient system to achieve those goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day IT project activities and establish working plan for each project phase.
  • Create project plans, oversee timelines and ensure deadlines are adhered to.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities are essential.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, networks, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals at FCIC and other FCFG companies.
  • Oversee provision of end-user services, including held desk and technical support services.
  • Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems for First Canadian Insurance and the First Canadian Financial Group of Companies.
  • Preserve assets, information security and control structures for all companies.
  • Work with stakeholders to define business and system requirements for new technology implementation.
  • Lead the IT department’s operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Approve and oversee projects and project portfolio. Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
  • Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Develop and implement business continuity planning in coordination with the Corporation Risk Manager (CRM) to ensure alignment between the BCP and the DRP.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and systems by developing business case justifications and presenting cost/benefit analyses.
  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies.
  • Audit and monitor to identify problematic areas and to implement strategic solutions to mitigate them.
  • Manage and maintain SOPs for new and old technical initiatives.
  • Being available to assist on-call employees when required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • BSc degree in Computer Science or related field is required.
  • MCSE Certification is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years as an IT Manager including 2-4 years of Network Admin/Domain Admin experience or management-related experience is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems is required.
  • Expertise in data center management and data governance.
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation.
  • Proven ability in people management and change management to drive a high performing culture is required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to effectively manage teams and projects.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
  • Fluent in English with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is required.
  • Successful completion of a credit check, criminal background check, education verification, and employment reference checks is required before employment.
