Your role as Squad Lead
Team leaders spend about half of their time coaching and organizing an agile team, while contributing to the development process according to their specific skills. In this role, you will ensure that your team is motivated, focused and delivering great software, working closely with your team members, a Scrum Master, a Product Owner, the release management, the DevOps team, and other stakeholders. Your goal is to foster a positive, inclusive and solution-driven work environment. You will be the voice of the team to communicate technical needs and changes, and the right hand of the development manager for your team.
What you will be doing:
- Guide scenarios through the development process by ensuring that requirements are sufficiently developed, directing estimates and guaranteeing the quality and completeness of deliveries.
- Ensure team capacity by approving time sheets, leave requests and ensuring proper out of office practices are used.
- Carry out performance evaluations in collaboration with the development manager.
- Debug issues, provide clear diagnosis and resolve with solid solutions, with an expectation of participating in the development effort, being 50% on average of a typical work week.
- Participate in the release process, troubleshoot deployments, and resolve release-related issues.
- Ensure that testing, monitoring and tooling strategies are promoted within the team and aligned with company best practices.
- Communicate relevant technical decisions and blockages to other development teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the improvement of the software development process, including tooling, agile procedures, etc.
- Coach and guide other team members on a daily basis, participate in performance reviews and cultivate team spirit.
- Assist with recruitment, including screening candidates and conducting interviews.
- Contribute to the software development of the product.
- Design consistent and reproducible versions.
- Improve and develop monitoring, alert and testing processes.
- Work closely with multiple teams to ensure software delivery.
- Write, update and use documentation, including runbooks and playbooks.
- Perform maintenance, safety audits, technical reviews, etc.
- Automate work for infrastructure, testing, failover, mitigation, etc.
- On-call rotation, triage duties and communications.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and solution driven work environment.
What we're looking for:
Mandatory
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience working in an Agile/Scrum development team that promoted software development best practices, such as automated testing, code reviews, vulnerability management, and DevOps techniques.
- At least 2 years of experience in a team leader position.
- Recognized for his ability to collaborate and work as a team, as well as bridge the communication gaps that often exist between teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional sense of organization, pragmatism and transparency.
- Ability to solve problems creatively.
- Quality and customer oriented.
- Good understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
- Good understanding of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket).
- Authorized to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident or holder of a post-graduation work permit)
Main qualifications
- Professional experience in Java back-end development with the following technologies: JDK 8+, Spring, Microservices, REST, Git, JUnit, simulation frameworks (mocking).
- Experience in front-end development with ReactJs.
- Experience developing cloud-based SaaS applications and GCP/AWS.
- Experience working with NOSQL databases.
- Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
This role requires strong English skills to interact with global colleagues outside Quebec. Proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential.
