KasaHR Consulting

Date: 2 weeks ago
City: Nanaimo, BC
Contract type: Full time
Established in 1963, St. Jean’s is a processor, brand owner and retailer with a wide and growing list of clients. Under the ownership of 5 West Coast First Nations, St. Jean’s continues to build upon its legacy of service and unique processing abilities.

On the West Coast, they know fish. And as one of the last remaining salmon and tuna canneries in Canada, they are proud to share wild seafood with those who know what seafood should be.

In addition to producing premium seafood products like the Raincoast Brand of tinned fish available in retailers throughout Canada, St. Jean’s provides custom sport fish processing services and commercial co-packing services for domestic and international customers. St. Jean’s online platform and retail locations showcase some of the best wild smoked salmon, candied salmon, albacore tuna, smoked oysters, and hand-packed canned seafood on the West Coast.

As part of a planned succession, St. Jean’s seeks a President to lead the company while building on its current strengths. The new leader will oversee 12 direct reports and a total staff of 90 (growing to 120-140 in summer months) across multiple locations, including the head office and processing facility in Nanaimo, a distribution center in Delta, and retail operations at YVR, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and Campbell River.

Based in Nanaimo, the position reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for developing and executing a long-range strategic (3-5 year) plan for the business supported by an annual business plan. Each will have specific objectives, accountabilities, and targets for business volume and profit growth, as well as sales and marketing plans, detailed customer plans, KPIs, and a sound people plan.

The President will be accountable for executing strategic plans and initiatives across multiple verticals, including delivering long-term sustainable volume and profit growth, team development, enhancing brand growth and fostering and developing strong relationships with key food retailers and other customers, key industry players, First Nations communities, government bodies, and other stakeholders.

We are seeking an experienced Sales/ Marketing/ Operations leader who excels in building and executing strategic sales, marketing, people, and operations plans that also deliver on the financial goals and responsibilities of the company.

Our ideal candidate will have strong Canadian food retailer relationships, as well as a proven track record of growing retail brands. The President will need to have a strong background in leadership and be adept at navigating fast-changing market conditions while maintaining operational excellence to meet customer needs. We are keen to speak with experienced leaders with the background and attributes required for success. Experience in a commodity environment, along with a solid understanding of food production, regulatory compliance and HACCP, within the seafood industry is preferred.
