Transit Supervisor

Salary Range: $65,000 to $75,000 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package
Position Overview
Reporting to the General Manager, the Transit Supervisor will oversee a team of approximately 40+ Transit Operators, ensuring passenger needs are met while providing leadership and support to the team. This role operates on a five-day workweek schedule, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Several years of experience as a Transit Operator, combined with supervisory experience, is preferred; however, candidates with extensive experience in management or supervision in related fields will also be considered
- Strong conflict resolution skills and a commitment to exceptional customer service
- Class 1 or 2 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is an asset (the company is willing to assist in obtaining a license upgrade)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Experience with online databases and work platforms is an asset
- Experience in transit scheduling is considered an asset
Responsibilities
- Provide on-road supervision of transit operations across the East Kootenay Region
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for Conventional, Custom, and Community Transit Operators
- Monitor radio communications and activity at transit exchanges, responding to on-road operational issues
- Ensure adherence to radio communication procedures, particularly in coordinating passenger transfers between routes
- Conduct covert and overt audits of on-time performance
- Enforce operating procedures and compliance with relevant statutes and regulations
- Dispatch and implement temporary adjustments to routes, driver assignments, and vehicle allocations as needed due to traffic, capacity, breakdowns, or weather conditions
- Initiate emergency assistance procedures in the event of collisions or passenger injuries and conduct formal incident investigations
- Ensure completion of incident/collision reports as required
- Maintain a daily log of events, including but not limited to missed or late service, customer concerns, passenger pass-ups, and driver performance notes
- Identify workplace safety hazards and develop/implement corrective controls
- Provide driver training and instruction, including new hire training
- Perform administrative office duties as needed
