About the role
ATB Capital Markets, a division of ATB Financial, is a fully integrated broker dealer providing a full suite of financial service solutions for the treasury, finance, capital markets and advisory needs of its corporate clients including:
- Corporate banking, loan syndications and project finance
- Debt capital, equity capital and financial markets
- Institutional sales and trading
- Expert advice on mergers and acquisitions, divestiture and private equity
- Institutional research to leverage industry and sector insight
ATB Capital Markets is looking for a Summer Student to support our Research Team and a key project involving industry database manipulation, analysis, and developing insights from data.
As ATB’s next Research Summer Student you are curious, hungry and passionate about investment research. You are a team player, eager to learn and looking to grow in your career. You have an analytical mind, an aptitude to dive deep into a topic and a passion for the stock market.
Accountabilities
- Create and maintain company financial models.
- Create exhibits suitable for supporting analysis and publishing.
- Maintenance of industry databases and company-specific spreadsheets as well as the use of industry-specific software.
- Assist in generating research publications including writing, editing, and final report preparation.
- Conduct primary research from industry and financial sources.
- Prepare and maintain marketing presentations as required.
- Liaise with sales, trading and other areas of the firm within regulatory guidelines.
Skills, experience & requirements
- Pursuing a university degree focused on Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or Geology.
- Must be willing and able to work onsite 100% at our office located at 8th Avenue Place in Calgary, AB.
- Passionate about investment research.
- Ability to conduct in-depth fundamental investment research.
- Strong accounting, financial modeling, technical and writing skills.
- Experience working with market data sets and add-ins including Bloomberg, Thomson, FactSet and Capital IQ a plus.
- Previous experience with geoScout is an asset.
- Must have extensive MS Excel experience.
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
- Need to possess strong written and verbal communication skills in both technical and non-technical forms.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines, sometimes for extended periods.
- Ability to multitask and manage several ongoing projects at the same time with a client-oriented focus.
- Self-motivated, hardworking and detail-oriented.
- Coding experience is an asset.
