About The Role

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Digital and Brand, the Digital Communications Officer will:

  • Work with different units across Council to define and implement projects to enhance Council’s mass email function to meet the Canada Council’s communication and engagement objectives.
  • Collaborates within the team and across Council to develop and implement the Council’s corporate newsletter, mass emails and other related content.
  • Develops training plans, guidelines, workshops and informal sessions in collaboration with the Manager to build digital communications capacity across Council.
  • Supports colleagues in honing their digital communications skills.
  • Monitors and shares insight on trends; reports on the results of Council’s mass emailing campaigns and initiatives; analyzes the use and impact of Council’s engagement and develops related recommendations.
  • Provide technical expertise in mass email functions including managing contact lists and understanding compliance with relevant anti-spam legislation, as well as digital communication support to the Council’s other communication platforms as needed, which can include public website, intranet and social media.

Education

  • An undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and education related to the responsibilities of the position.

Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in a digital communications role including digital marketing, email marketing, intranet or website specialist or digital product owner.
  • Three (3) years of experience in large and complex multi-channel digital projects.
  • Experience in developing digital marketing, intranet, or other digital communication strategies.
  • Experience in managing contact lists and in CASL compliance.
  • Experience working shoulder to shoulder with different disciplines, including content, design, development, and marketing.

Knowledge

  • Advisory knowledge of using digital communications tools as strategically integrated marketing tactics.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing best practices, and audience segmentation.
  • Knowledge of content marketing fundamentals including search engine marketing.
  • Knowledge of mass email platforms like Envoke and Mailchimp.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation and contact list management best practices.
  • Knowledge of content or customer relation management systems (such as Salesforce) would be an asset.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Bilingual Requirements

This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are:

  • An intermediate level in reading comprehension (B).
  • A basic level in writing (A).
  • An intermediate level in oral (B).
