Role Summary

Combine Cafe & Bar Barista will report directly to the Cafe Manager. As Barista you are responsible for interacting and inspiring our guests through delicious edible beverages and well-curated mix of food offerings. At Combine Cafe & Bar as a Barista you are passionate about food and beverages. You will meet all guests with a warm smile and enthusiastic greeting, answer their questions, take orders and accept payment as well as prepare and serve food and drinks. As part of Combine Cafe & Bar Barista will contribute to the positive and enthusiastic team environment who work together as a cohesive team with a focus of excellence in all that we do.

Key Accountabilities

  • Welcoming guests, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, and accepting orders and payment.
  • Prepare beverage offerings to standard recipes or customized customer requests, including recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients or substitutions to ingredients.
  • Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
  • Packaging food and beverages for sale.
  • Sell coffee and coffee grinding/brewing equipment by explaining differences in coffee beans and coffee preparation machines; demonstrating how brewing equipment operates.
  • Collect payments from guests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Managing cash float and balance accurately at the end of each shift.
  • Cleaning and restocking coffee bar and dining areas, emptying trash and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
  • Learning about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
  • Updating signage and displays to attract customers.
  • Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
  • Working as part of a fun, high-energy team.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and directed by Restaurant or Cafe Manager.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior Barista experience considered an asset
  • Foodsafe Level 1 certificate would be considered an asset

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have excellent grooming standards and remain professional at all times.
  • Must be pleasant, have an outgoing personality and be able to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals and guests.
  • Well organized and efficient, able to multitask.
  • Team player and works productively with others.
  • Have an excellent command of both spoken and written English. Knowledge of a 2nd language would be considered an asset.
  • Have solid problem solving, decision making, customer service, communication and sales skills.
  • Have detailed knowledge of the Surrey area, services and local attractions.
  • Be able to stand for extended periods of time, reach, bend and stoop repeatedly.
  • Be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
