Audit Director

CIBC

Date: 1 week ago
City: Toronto, ON
Contract type: Full time

What you’ll be doing

As the Audit Director, you will lead a multi-skilled audit team within the Personal and Business Banking portfolio and oversee large or highly complex audits throughout all phases, including planning, execution, and reporting. You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with business partners, internal colleagues, and other internal and external stakeholders by providing trusted advice or assurance on governance, internal control, and risk management activities. You will also be responsible for managing the team’s performance and development, monitoring of key business risks and regulatory requirements, project management, and leading various continuous improvement initiatives.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Project management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute risk-based audits, report audit results, and perform continuous monitoring of management’s control environment. Champion the migration of best practices throughout CIBC and stay informed about regulatory developments and emerging issues affecting CIBC and Internal Audit. Effectively manage and oversee multiple audits, perform continuous monitoring activities, and participate in internal projects at different stages to ensure timely completion within prescribed timelines. Communicate regularly on progress and issues, and review audit work to ensure a high level of quality and compliance with audit standards.
  • Leadership: Provide trusted and proactive advice to the audit team and business management on the design and operating effectiveness of processes and controls, ensuring that key risks and regulatory requirements relevant to the portfolio are adequately managed. Coach and develop team members to build capability, maintain a collaborative and inclusive team environment, and meet individual development goals.
  • Communication: Demonstrate clear, concise, and influential written and verbal communication skills when issuing audit reports, discussing audit findings, resolving conflicts, or interacting with CIBC executives or other internal business partners. Develop strong internal and external relationships through ongoing communication regarding the progress of engagements and providing sound advice on risk, control and regulatory matters.
  • Big picture view on the Personal and Business Banking Portfolio: You are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the products and services offered to personal and business banking clients, including knowledge of supporting channels, regulations, laws, emerging trends, and risks.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 5-10 years of progressive experience working in an Internal Audit function, Big 4 or other related profession in the financial services sector, with a focus on personal and business banking, including relevant regulatory, legal, control, and operating environments. You hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, or Finance, along with a professional designation (e.g., CPA, CIA, MBA) or equivalent business experience, which is considered an asset.
  • You can demonstrate strong audit knowledge, people leadership, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex situations effectively.
  • You understand that success is in the details. You are detail-oriented and notice things that others may overlook. Your critical thinking and analytical skills inform your decision-making process, allowing you to see the 'big picture' while confidently communicating detailed information in an impactful manner. You can deliver quality audit reports with insightful messages that are free of errors and grammatical mistakes.
  • You're driven by collective success. You recognize that collaboration can transform a good idea into a great one and understand the power of an inclusive team that works together to achieve a shared vision of purpose.
  • Your influence makes an impact. You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including the clear articulation of ideas and opinions. You understand that relationships and networks are essential to success.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your authentic self to work, uphold a strong work ethic, and you embody our core values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.
