Summary

The Manager, Engineering is responsible for the ongoing development and management of the Engineering team. Accountabilities include business development, client relationship management, employee staffing and ongoing financial management of their assigned Engineering consulting practice area.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

People Leadership

Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Full involvement with recruiting talent.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members.
  • Objectively recommend compensation adjustments.
  • Manage all aspects of performance.


Business Development Activities

  • Maintain opportunity pipeline to represent as accurate a forecast for New Business as possible.
  • Support corporate marketing and business development activities in articulating Engineering capabilities and client benefits.
  • Develop new capabilities (offerings) aligned with targeted client segments to enhance business development success.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement programs to achieve greater client satisfaction. Programs may include but may not be limited to communication and innovation.


Client Relationship Management

  • Work with Program Director and the entire BGIS Management Team to understand Engineering client issues, challenges and opportunities and to facilitate, propose and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with other BGIS Lines of Business to develop effective joint efforts or leverage other LOB resources and/or initiatives to promote Engineering solutions for our clients.
  • Manage Client Perception of Engineering Services as reflected in Customer Satisfaction KPIs.
  • Identifiy shortcomings in service levels and provides recommendations to enhance performance.


Team Operational Management

  • Manage Staff productivity and Work quality through appropriate labour planning and work inspections on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage Team morale and employee development through the BGIS Optimizer process and ESAT program.
  • Manage Start Up and Close Out transition processes for new assignments.
  • Develop skill gap analysis for the group and plan for growth of department.


Facility Management Program

  • Collaborate with all relevant parties to review, develop and refine facility management programs along with related processes and technologies in order to achieve efficiency gains and ongoing operational excellence.
  • Lead the implementation of facility management programs and program enhancements and drive consistency in program execution.
  • Ensure effective engagement & collaboration between Property Mgrs. & Project Mgrs., & client representatives.
  • Support achievement of client portfolio vision, goals & objectives.
  • Provide senior level direction & leadership for the team.
  • Manage risk effectively, including ensuring due diligence & compliance with applicable legislation, regulation & policy.
  • Collaborate with relevant concerned parties to ensure all capital planning requirements are identified, budgeted and recommended to the client.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • University graduation or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Good understanding of the facility management business.
  • Previous experience in Commercial and Large program type projects.
  • Strong skills in developing internal reporting systems, benchmarking, and target setting.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems, HVAC Plant and its operation.
  • Good understanding of project management.


Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Professional Engineering designation is a must.
