WSP is looking for a Junior Social Scientist to join our dynamic BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team in our Vancouver office. This full-time position offers the chance to work on a variety of fascinating projects across sectors, both locally and internationally.
Our team of dedicated social scientists and engagement specialists is involved in a wide range of impactful work, including Environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, environmental permitting, policy and program development, social management planning, sustainability initiatives, and community engagement.

What you can expect to do here:
- You will support socio-economic and land and marine use assessments as part of environmental impact assessments for a wide variety of sectors, including infrastructure, power and renewable energy, mining, and oil & gas.
- You will support secondary research, primary data collection, and field work, including qualitative and quantitative data collection with Indigenous Nations, user groups, communities, and the public.
- You will conduct analysis and reporting of socio-economic research.
- You will support Indigenous and public engagement activities for projects.
- You will assist with the development of socio-economic and land and marine use management plans for projects to meet regulatory and corporate requirements and best practices.
- You will support other WSP services as may be required, such as socio-economic monitoring, health impact assessments, permit applications, and social compliance and due diligence reviews.
- You will assist senior staff with project coordination and management, proposal development, and technical presentations.
- Educational Background: A university degree in social science, natural resource management, or a related field is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant professional experience.
- Research Skills: Proven social science research skills, including the use of government statistics, surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Experience in designing and implementing research programs and logistics is essential.
- Team Collaboration: A strong team player with experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
- Community Engagement: Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities, and the public.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel for business and work extended hours as needed.
- Work Ethic: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a strong work ethic.
- Communication Skills: Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
