About the job:

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned work effectively, prioritizing, executing, reporting, managing schedule and budget.
  • Development of instrument index, I/O list, I/O assignment, equipment list, alarm rationalization list.
  • Development of Control room layouts, instrument loop diagrams, wiring drawings, instrument location plans, installation details, and Fire and Gas (F&G) location plans, Cable schedules etc.
  • Performing instrument selection, specification, and inline device sizing calculations.
  • Development of Control Narratives and Cause and Effect diagrams.
  • Develop specifications, data sheets, material requisition and technical bid evaluation for field instruments, analyzers, and system cabinets.
  • Develop I&C MTOs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stages
  • Design cabinets and JBs etc.
  • Suopport P&ID development
  • Participating in design reviews, HAZOPs, LOPA and SIL.
  • Reviewing project documents for scope, presentation, and technical accuracy.
  • Providing home office engineering support to on-site personnel
  • Review vendor designs for compliance with technical specifications and applicable standards.
  • Develop engineering work packages or Construction work packages.
  • Attending project team meetings, Client meetings & vendor review meetings
  • Carry out site surveys to gather detailed information for design needs.
  • Utilize the workshare office or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Center) to complete the deliverables.
  • Reviewing designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements.
  • Programming of PLC, DCS and SIS system (i.e. Honeywell and Allan Bradley)
  • Experience with different types of analyzers such as CEMS, NIR, Oxygen, Carbon monoxide, Nitric Oxide, Chlorine etc.
  • Review drawings and designs to control quality and accuracy,
  • P. Eng. sealing of I&C deliverables
  • Establishing the scope of work, effort hour estimates and deliverable lists.
  • Producing highly advanced and complex designs.
  • Developing and recommending improvements in design standards to lower costs, improve work quality and facilitate maintenance.
  • Other duties as required.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Degree in Instrumentation and Control Systems from an accredited University or College
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in the Energy, Oil & Gas, and petrochemical industries for Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed engineering projects.
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
  • Exhibits an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, project management processes, and construction workflow.
  • Experience in the EPC industry, leading the local and workshare team will be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in technology.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into daily work processes.
  • Direct experience working with clients and industry specifications and standards.
  • Brownfield and Greenfield Experience is beneficial
  • PLC programming skills will be an asset
  • Analyzer experience will be an asset

Communication:

  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal & written
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate workflow with High-Value Centers (HVEC).
  • Establish / Maintain good working relationships with the Clients and the ability to represent the employer professionally.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Leadership skills, team player, Proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet assignment schedules & deliver quality products under competing priorities
  • Self-motivated & goal-oriented.
  • Proven attention to detail, analytical, and strong customer service skills required.
  • Good writing skills to produce technical reports, scope documents and presentations.
