Job Brief

The Transportation Operations department is accepting applications for up to two (2) Seasonal Term positions of Machine Operator III (Street Sweeper.)

The Transportation Operations department is accepting applications for up to two (2) Seasonal Term positions of Machine Operator III (Street Sweeper.)

Pay Rate: $31.56 per hour

Status: The term will be approximately 4 - 6 months

IMPORTANT: Night shift work required

Duties

This position, under direction of the Foreman, includes will operate a street sweeper to remove sand and dirt from roadways throughout the city.

The Machine Operator III Will Also Be Responsible For

• Performing minor maintenance on the street sweeper
• Pre-trip and post-trip inspections and daily cleaning of the street sweeper
• When assigned, this role may also include asphalt patching, barricade fabrication and other transportation operations related duties.
  
  

Qualifications

• Valid class 5 Operator’s license and Q airbrake endorsement (class 3Q is preferred)
• Excellent driving and maneuvering skills in a variety of extreme weather conditions, heavy traffic, and congested work site areas
• Extensive knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations regarding operation of equipment and transportation of a variety of construction and maintenance materials
• Mechanical aptitude to successfully perform routine servicing and minor maintenance.
• Alberta Temporary Traffic Control (ATTC) Training (considered an asset)
• Current certification in Defensive Driving (considered an asset)
• Current first aid certification (considered an asset)
• Experience in the safe and proficient operation of tools and equipment for the position
• Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public.
• Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction within a team setting.
• The physical ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions is critical
