Purpose
3B medicine at Sault Area Hospital is a dynamic and collaborative environment, featuring 50 beds and a primary focus on adult patients, with a particular emphasis on geriatric/palliative care. The unit is dedicated to delivering patient-centered care, ensuring that the needs and preferences of each individual are at the forefront of treatment. This unit provides an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals to develop and expand their skills while working with an interdisciplinary team of experts. The patient population often consists of acutely ill individuals with multi-system chronic illnesses, offering a challenging and rewarding setting for those passionate about improving the quality of life for older adults.
Duties
Nurses will be selected on the basis of their skill, ability, experience and qualifications as identified in the resume which they have attached to the posting application form. The Hospital reserves the right to conduct a formal interview and/or testing where required.

Duties
- Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
- Effectively use the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient.
- Provides assistance in planning corrective actions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
- Compliant with legislation, organizational and departmental, regulations, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
- Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development by remaining current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current Registration with College of Nurses of Ontario in Good Standing
- BCLS Certification required
- Current certification in venipuncture (I.V. certification).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in effective therapeutic communication techniques and interviewing skills
- Demonstrated clinical competency in planning and providing care for medically complex patients
- Demonstrated physical assessment skills, critical thinking skills and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in effective therapeutic communication techniques and interviewing skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize patient care demands and to set priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use and interpret, patient monitoring tools (i.e., telemetry, NIHSS tool, CIWA Scale, DKA assessment tool and protocol)
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to patient and family centered care.
- Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes
- Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s Standards of Performance and iCcare values.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone
