A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Test Technician at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc., you will play a vital role in managing the test lab, include maintaining, calibrating, and ensuring the readiness of all equipment. Collaborating with Test Engineers, you will help establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare test setups, document results, and maintain records for future analysis. This position will report to the Test Engineering Supervisor.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Perform shipment testing as required, ensuring products meet necessary shipping and handling standards. Assist Test Engineers to conduct tests according to verification and validation plans.
  • Participate in failure analysis investigations and root cause analysis, identifying failure modes and supporting corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of new and existing testing protocols to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Compile and analyze test data, providing actionable insights to the test engineering team to support product improvements.
  • Oversee daily operations of the test lab, ensuring that all equipment, tools, and systems are properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for use.
  • Ensure the test lab is clean, organized, and well-maintained. Conduct regular cleaning and upkeep of lab equipment and tools to maintain a safe and efficient testing environment.
  • Track and record the usage of all test equipment and tools, including monitoring who borrows equipment and ensuring everything is returned in good condition. Keep an accurate log of the location and quantity of all instruments.
  • Monitor inventory of frequently used lab supplies and materials, liaising with suppliers to ensure stock levels are maintained. Place orders and ensure timely delivery to avoid shortages.
  • Ensure all lab instruments are properly calibrated and maintain records of calibration schedules and outcomes. Follow up on overdue calibrations to guarantee accuracy and compliance.

Skills You Bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in electrical, mechatronics, or an engineering discipline from a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years in a test technician role, with significant experience in test lab environments preferred.
  • High comfort level with operating and maintaining of test equipment and tools.
  • With strong attention to details, able to follow detailed test procedures accurately and identify issues during testing.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team skills.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with setting up and using various test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters).
  • Skilled at troubleshooting test setups, equipment failures, and root cause analysis of issues.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical issues and test results clearly to team members and engineers.
  • Background with data analysis using Microsoft Excel or JMP.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings to assist in test setup and execution.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and best practices in a lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in lab management, including organizing workflows and overseeing daily operations.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.

Compensation:

Salary Pay Range: $43,253 to $80,326 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
