About Our Opportunity:
This full-time role will provide counselling, parent-education and support to families and children (birth - 12 years) referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). This position provides linkage between the family, the community, MCFD, and other professional services. This person reports to the Program Manager of Project Parent Fraser South and is located at FSGV’s Surrey (Guildford) office. Fluency in English is required, and persons with a second language (e.g., Punjabi, Spanish, Farsi/Dari, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc.) are encouraged to apply.

Work Hours:
35 hours per week full-time.
Salary:
Grade 13 Step 1 $37.89/hour.

What do you need to succeed?
Education, Training, Experience
- Minimum of a Master's degree in a social science (e.g., MSW/MA/MEd in counselling psychology) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children ages birth - 12 years.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of child welfare policies and procedures.
- Understanding of integrated case management/wrap around services delivery.
- Working knowledge of different parenting strategies and the ability to share these strategies with families.
- In-depth knowledge of child abuse dynamics.
- Excellent crisis intervention skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with families with multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, attachment, and mental health issues.
- Competence in a Windows PC environment including MS WORD and EXCEL.
Additional Requirements
- Working vehicle required with valid BC Driver’s License and insurance.
- Ability to work evenings.
- Ability to drive clients when needed.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
Your Key Contributions
Counselling
- Conduct assessments of the needs, dynamics, and functioning of families.
- Develop and redevelop goals with the family as necessary.
- Develop and implement a counselling service, support, and intervention plan in collaboration with the family and MCFD.
- Provide service in the family home or in the community as appropriate.
- Connect children and parents to appropriate supports and services.
- Observe the interaction between the parent and child in their home environment.
- Coach, model, and educate using various therapeutic parenting models and psychoeducation.
- Provide information on child development, nutrition, safety, discipline, and home management.
- Address concrete needs dependent on family needs, as required.
Case Management/Record-Keeping
- Maintain case records as part of client files, including logs of client sessions; the focus of each session; the approach/intervention utilized; the outcome of the session; and any plans as a result of the session.
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, contacts, referrals and report to MCFD as required by contract.
- Ensure that agency and accreditation standards are met in delivering services and maintaining records.
Other
- Complete administrative requirements (e.g., timesheets).
- Participate in and be prepared for clinical supervision.
