Job Description

The Set-Up Manager is a full-time position, responsible for assisting the Aramark catering department and the TRU Conference Centre staff in the coordinating and carrying out of events, playing a key role in ensuring events are set up properly and run smoothly and accurately.

They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the event set-up staff who work on campus to set-up all room layouts for catered functions. The position includes administrative tasks such as managing staff, scheduling, ordering supplies, and reviewing and completing paperwork.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the event set-up staff who work on campus to setup all room layouts for catered functions.
  • Heavy lifting of large equipment such as stage, dance floor, tables, AV equipment, etc.
  • Coordinates with venue and catering staff to ensure facilities, equipment, and materials are properly set-up prior to an event.
  • Executing set-ups with the utmost care and attention and ensuring that every job is completed in a satisfactory manner.
  • Acts as the "eyes" in a room, looking at the final details that make a room appear flawless (example, checking for dirty or uneven skirting, spots on furniture, items missing).
  • Maintaining all banquet areas and storage rooms by ensuring that they are neat and tidy during and at the end of each shift.
  • Cleaning duties of banquet storage rooms, vacuuming banquet spaces, organizing equipment.
  • Training new team members.
  • Portray a professional image by wearing assigned uniform & being well groomed.
  • Administrative tasks such as managing staff, scheduling, ordering supplies, inventory, and reviewing and completing billing and paperwork.
  • Occasionally be the primary point of contact for our clients the day of an event.
  • Maintain ability to work both quickly and efficiently as a team as well as individually.
  • Always maintain courteous and professional conduct with guests, staff and management

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years' experience in a supervisor role required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical, organization, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail
  • Full Time Availability and must be flexible and able to work various shifts (various times, split shifts, various days of the week, weekends Overnights)
  • Good physical condition to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects (approx. 40lbs).
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience working as a manager or supervisor in a heavy labour environment or a catering service environment is a must.
  • Successfully pass a criminal record check.
  • Must have leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be reliable, dependable and trustworthy.
  • This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
