As a member of Trench Canada’s Legal Counsel, you will be the first point of contact and hold key responsibility for all legal related issues (e.g. in the areas of sales, procurement, claims, disputes, corporate, etc.) in Canada and the US, encompassing two production facilities Scarborough and Pickering, a greenfield investment in the US, and a new assembly facility in GTA. It will be your responsibility to ensure compliance with applicable processes, directives, policies, contracts, and laws. You will also be responsible for providing guidance and improving legal & commercial practices, processes, templates, tools, policies and directives.

A Snapshot of Your Day
As a member of Trench Canada’s Legal Counsel, you will be the first point of contact and hold key responsibility for all legal related issues (e.g. in the areas of sales, procurement, claims, disputes, corporate, etc.) in Canada and the US, encompassing two production facilities Scarborough and Pickering, a greenfield investment in the US, and a new assembly facility in GTA. It will be your responsibility to ensure compliance with applicable processes, directives, policies, contracts, and laws. You will also be responsible for providing guidance and improving legal & commercial practices, processes, templates, tools, policies and directives.
Your Tasks:
- Drafting, reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
- Supporting the business in all legal and contractual matters including claim management and dispute settlement.
- Defining with the business targeted T&C´s as well as ensuring transparency of T&C´s and related risks in the organization and appropriate risk mitigation and/or provisioning.
- Managing all corporate affairs of Trench Canada.
- Together with the Global Compliance Officer, responsible for all compliance matters of Trench Canada.
- Manage engagement of external law firms.
- Designing and delivering legal training to the business.
- Together with the business and the Legal team improve contractual documentation and knowledge management to protect the company´s interest.
- A university degree in law with a focus on contract or business law.
- Qualified to practice law in Canada, additional legal experience in the US is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other languages, especially Portuguese is an asset.
- At least 3 years of in-house experience, ideally at an industrial manufacturing company.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to navigate jurisdictions.
- High level of communication and facilitation skills as well as intercultural competence.
- Deep understanding of business and economics.
