Accounting Technician

The Accounting Technician is responsible for providing accounting, administrative and clerical duties, associated with inputting, summarizing, and reporting of financial information. This position assists with departmental priorities as well as recommending improvements to existing routines and functions within Financial Services. The Accounting Technician ensures accurate accounting records are maintained for all receipts and disbursements of the Board. Duties include performing a variety of complex clerical bookkeeping and accounting tasks, applying accepted processes and procedures to the preparation and maintenance of Financial Services records. This position requires a background in accounting and high prioritizing skills to be able to adhere to deadlines for timely and accurate reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary accounting diploma, or certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a computerized business environment.
  • Experience with a school board or other public-sector organization is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Solid Experience with various Accounts Payable functions, including Canadian and US transaction processing, and completing various payment methods to suppliers including Cheques, EFTs, and Visa payments.
  • Strong reconciliation skills including analysis of accounts and balancing.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in an organized manner, and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Advanced understanding of, and skills, using financial information systems and MS Office.
  • Experience using Sparkrock is considered an asset.
  • Excellent time management skills with focusing on accuracy and attention to details.
  • Demonstrated professional ethic and sensitivity to the confidential nature of the position.
  • Demonstrate process improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Start Date: ASAP Job Type: Permanent Salary: $29.82/hour
