Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead Quality Operations across multiple Canadian sites within our Mission Systems division. We are looking for in-depth expertise in the AS9100 standard, a proven ability to guide cross-functional teams, and a history of successfully managing Quality Engineers and Quality Control Inspectors and maintaining the organization’s Quality Management System. This role is crucial in ensuring product excellence, maintaining compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, and fostering a culture of process compliance and continuous improvement.

Quality Assurance Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and sustain quality management systems compliant with AS9100 and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee quality assurance activities across multiple sites, ensuring operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Lead audits and manage certifications, including internal, customer, and third-party audits.
  • Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support Department of National Defence (DND) contracts by collaborating with the in-house NDQAR and managing follow-up activities.
  • Work with Customers’ Quality representatives to maintain acceptable levels of Customer satisfaction.
  • Use data-driven methodologies to identify and address quality issues, employing tools such as root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational processes.

Quality Control Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee quality control processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain inspection procedures to ensure product compliance.
  • Lead and manage a team of quality control inspectors.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide training and guidance on quality control procedures to staff.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality Engineers and Quality Control Inspectors to meet organizational objectives.
  • Establish clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and drive professional growth.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations, contractual commitments, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive quality records and documentation aligned with company policies and regulatory mandates.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to advance quality-focused initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer and regulatory communications concerning quality matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of quality assurance/quality management experience within the aerospace or defense industry, ideally in a manufacturing and engineering environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role managing quality personnel.
  • Expertise in AS9100 and related quality standards.
  • Proven success managing quality operations across multiple locations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Skills

  • Advanced understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and supply chain management in aerospace and defense.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering design and development processes (hardware, software, systems).
  • Proficiency with problem-solving tools (e.g., 8D, FMEA, SPC) and quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication abilities and demonstrated competence in effectively working with internal and external customers.
  • Skilled in using quality management systems and software.

Preferred Certifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE).
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor
