Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has an immediate requirement for the following position:

Third-Class Stationary Engineer

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Third-Class Stationary Engineer’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Completes all duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) Code.
  • Responsible for the operational checks and servicing of the pump house, water treatment plants, cooling towers, baghouses, air conditioning, boilers and compressors and auxiliaries.
  • Inspects equipment, adjusts pump and fan sequences, maintains supply of chemicals, and manually operates filter backwash as required.
  • Responsible for the operational checks and servicing of the compressor room and the allied equipment and auxiliaries.
  • Inspects equipment, reads meters, records readings, changes charts and takes water samples and tests with specified chemicals.
  • Adds chemicals to water system and adjusts blow downs for proper boiler water concentrations as required by operating conditions.
  • Performs daily routine maintenance such as packing pumps, lubricating equipment, etc. and engages in major overhauls and repairs to equipment listed above.
  • Completes required check lists and logs daily conditions. Reports abnormal conditions with steam, compressed air and raw water system to Chief Stationary Engineer.
  • Repairs, overhauls, assembles and/or reassembles components and parts of plant equipment.
  • Monitors various Equipment/Systems (air, water, team) throughout the Plant and takes preventative or corrective action when necessary
  • Performs general housekeeping duties and maintains a clean work area.
  • Observes and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Must hold a valid Third Class Stationary Engineer Certificate.
  • At least three years of experience working as a Third-Class Stationary Engineer, preferably in a heavy industrial or manufacturing setting would be an asset.
  • Willing to work shifts and overtime as required and the occasional weekends.
  • Working knowledge of PLC Controls (Allen-Bradley) preferred.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of AC and DC motors and a mechanical aptitude
  • Proven trouble-shooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Superior analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong safety track record.
  • A strong willingness to work in a fast-paced, lean environment where adaptability, innovation and hard work are valued above all else.
  • This position pays $33.96 per hour and a shift premium is paid to employees working the afternoon shift ($0.35) and ($0.55) working the night shift. Valbruna ASW Inc. offers an excellent benefits package, including health insurance and pension plan.
