Job Description:

Within TBSM Technology, the Treasury Analytics Group (TAG) is dedicated to support the Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) department in measuring and managing balance sheet, market and liquidity risks for the Bank's portfolios, both in Canada and the US. This group manages technology infrastructure, processes, and projects required to support various functional teams in TBSM.

Within TAG, the Indigo team manages the "Indigo" Hadoop/Spark platform, which is used for collecting and storing incoming retail and wholesale banking activity data and also the resulting treasury-related metrics such as Non-Trading Market Risk (NTMR) and Fund Transfer Pricing (FTP). The platform also supports the generation of key regulatory liquidity reporting such as FR2052A.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead project teams comprising Business System Analysts (BSAs) and Developers working on industry-standard and cutting-edge technologies including Big Data and NoSQL databases (Hadoop, HBase, Hive, SPARK, and MongoDB) and help the TBSM effectively manage the risk.

Examples of projects/work activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Onboarding new feeds to ensure completeness and accuracy of TBSM metrics
  • Build extraction pipelines from Indigo to other applications to support regulatory or business requirements
  • Integrate third-party vendor based upstream data sources or downstream analytics with Indigo
  • Migrate Indigo to the Azure Cloud
  • Manage Business as Usual (BAU) activities - i.e., manage regular processes currently in production

About this Role:

  • Demonstrate leadership in driving projects to their timely completion and ensuring the work is of high quality
  • Assume a lead role in project management activities such as scoping and estimating project efforts, identifying risks and recommending mitigation measures, communicating activity status, and escalating and communicating possible issues
  • Work with other stakeholders in a project to document and validate business rules requirements
  • Help BSAs and developers translate the business requirements into technical requirements
  • Work with members of the team to put together estimates for work packages
  • Devise testing plans for release implementation, considering multiple factors including the Business' requirements, time constraints, and impact of changes to existing processes in production
  • Monitor ongoing resourcing requirements and proactively flag potential issues to the manager
  • Develop a solid understanding of the Indigo platform and adjacent applications including both strengths and limitations, to become a voice of authority and a strategic influencer
  • Embrace a hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Assist internal audit and regulators in their reviews and work on remediation of issues identified
  • Coach new or less experienced colleagues

Mandatory Skills:

  • Experience working on large scale projects as well as handling day-to-day operational requests from the business
  • Hands-on experience in Advanced Excel
  • SDLC / Agile methodology experience
  • Familiarity with RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks at any given point, strong relationship-building skills & communication skills
  • Being comfortable working in a distributed teams environment
  • Demonstrated success in building effective relationships in a highly cross-functional environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience in the financial services industry, specifically in Capital Markets and Treasury
  • Experience with Big Data and NoSQL databases (Hadoop/HBase/Spark) and Spark SQL is a bonus
  • Developer or BSA or Data Analysis background with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience in SQL/Python/Java
