Reporting to the Superintendent, the Cable Repair Technician will be responsible to maintain, tests, troubleshoots, and complete repair ticket orders in association with the feed and distribution network.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of infrastructure, Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) or customer builds
- Expertise in isolating fibre and copper troubles in the feed or distribution network
- Retrofitting of various types of aerial, underground or buried closures
- Adding new cables into existing splices
- Transferring cable pairs (Including special circuits)
- Opening and accessing lead sleeve closures
- Splicing various types of terminals such as pole mount, wall mount, buried or building
- Hands on experience with HDSL, LD1 and load coils in an active network
- Placing or removal of air pressure devices
- Transferring and moving of working miscellaneous network devices
- Copper splicing from with colour coded PIC cable as large as 3600 pair
- Knowledge of electrical protection requirements, including bonding and grounding
- The installation of various industry splice closures such as PLP, cold-n-close and aerial SLIC Terminals
- Placing or removing drop wires or NEZ wire
- Testing and verifying copper pairs with multiple test sets to identify troubles and confirm continuity or troubles such as grounds, sort circuits, or opens
- Experience splicing in the following environments:
- Aerial
- Buried
- Building or phone rooms
- Underground
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the telecommunications, utility, construction, or maintenance
- Knowledge of work area protection and safe work practices
- Electrical Safety Awareness
- Working knowledge of Bell/MTS copper and fibre plant
- Understanding of repair tickets associated with Bell/MTS
- Working at heights
- Familiar with working in confined spaces or manholes
- Self-motivated with good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Adaptable to flexible work schedule such as nights when required to meet deadlines
- Ability to work with others as a team
- Ability to problem solve and work independently
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate respectfully with employees, visitors, and customers
- Ability to prioritize tasks multiple tasks to ensure customer due dates are met
- Valid class G driver’s license
- Experience working in a live copper and fibre network
- Experience chasing highspeed copper issues
- Experience managing section throws, bridging of cable, cut-overs or line transfers
- Understanding of a 3M APIC machine
