Position Summary

The General Manager, reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief International Business Officer is responsible for overseeing the strategic, operational, and financial performance of the organization’s operations for G.F. Thompson ULC and Oatey Canada SCS Co. This role ensures daily sales and administrative operations align with the companies’ business and financial objectives while driving strategic direction. The General Manager will work closely with internal teams, external partners, and corporate leadership to align the Canadian operations with the organization’s overall vision and goals.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for the Canadian market that aligns with corporate objectives.
  • Identify market opportunities, customer needs, and industry trends to drive business growth and innovation.
  • Responsible for the daily operations and oversight of the entities, employing associates (of various disciplines) with primary responsibility for all commercial and financial activities. The GM will also collaborate with the Senior Vice President of International Operations with regards to logistic and operational activities.
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President, formulate, implement, and lead effective business strategies designed to increase sales revenues and operational profits generated through existing and new business lines, in line with global strategy.
  • Manage P & L for the Canadian operations, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded.
  • Prepare and present budgets, forecasts, and performance reports to corporate leadership.
  • Apply industry experience to identify and develop new business opportunities with the objective to expand the present scope of the companies.
  • Conduct regular business reviews and maintain close contacts with key stakeholders (customers, corporate staff, and associates) to build value-based relationships.
  • Monitor competitive activities by improving the market intelligence and by implementing proactive counteractions.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team-building skills to ensure continuity and staff development, while recognizing the importance of innovation and diversification.
  • Strengthen our commitment to deliver on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion objectives, and continue to be highly involved in the strategic direction of policies relating to both Canada-specific and global DE&I goals.
  • Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with organization officials and staff members as necessary.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of departments concerned with the production, pricing, sales, and/or distribution of products.
  • Cooperate with Finance team to maintain financial reporting to GAAP standards and conform to financial policies; adhere to general corporate policies.
  • Develop and implement strategic synergies within the businesses to optimize operational efficiencies and maximize profitability.
  • Evaluate M&A opportunities and assist key stakeholders in related activities, where required.
  • Travel expectations: 25%.

Knowledge And Experience

  • 10+ years of related experience including 5+ years of senior management experience.
  • In-depth experience in budget preparation and oversight of P&L management.
  • Strong business acumen includes but not limited to finance, budget planning, sales and marketing, human resources management and organizational development.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly conceptual, developing roadmaps for growth and success, balanced with an eye for detail.
  • Significant experience in sales and marketing and business development.
  • Proven record of assessing and directing marketing and sales strategies, distribution, channel decisions, pricing strategies and other related marketing activities, with a history of delivering quality financial performance and results.
  • Preferred background in the plumbing industry, but not limited to this sector.
  • Experience working with an ERP system, preferably SAP.

Education and Certification

  • University degree in business, administrative, or another relevant discipline, or relevant equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
