Risk Analytics – Client Service Intern

The State Street Risk Analytics – Client Service Intern role will be responsible for the successful execution of the client service function for allocated clients where we are required to provide market risk, derivative risk & liquidity risk management services. This will involve responsibility for the daily review and delivery of reporting to multiple clients. The role may also involve some participation in the areas of data governance, KPI oversight, client communication and new client onboarding.
This is an ideal opportunity to work closely with NAV, Financial Engineering, Product, and Software Development teams and to build strong technical risk management, project management, and communication/people skills.
This role would be particularly suited to a candidate with a strong mathematical background who is interested in quantitative techniques and risk analysis and working towards a degree in Finance or a related field.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and deliver market risk, derivative risk, and liquidity risk files and reports to existing clients.
- Provide client support, help resolve client issues, and demonstrate a firm understanding of the product to users (risk managers, portfolio managers, traders, etc.)
- Reconcile risk results against accounting reports and independent data.
- Perform root cause analysis in terms of risk analytics, historical market data, and fund transparency data problems.
- Communicate issues to different departments within the firm and to various groups within the risk team.
- Assist in ensuring consistent operational procedures are well documented, maintained, and followed.
- Other project-based tasks as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- General understanding of risk management and Hedge Funds/Mutual Funds/Pension Funds, etc.
- Working knowledge of risk analytics such as Value-at-Risk, Stress Testing, Sensitivity Analytic (i.e., Greeks).
- Working towards a university designation with a concentration in Finance or Mathematics or both.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of financial instruments including Fixed Income, Swaps, Options, Credit Derivatives, and FX.
- Strong analytical ability and troubleshooting skills.
- Highly motivated, multi-task capable, and a willingness to learn.
- Experience with the SQL query language is a plus.
- Experience with Excel VBA is a plus.
