Reports to: Senior Manager, Product Engineering
Location: 214 Bayview Drive, Barrie (hybrid)
Job Purpose: The Mechatronics Engineer(ing) will lead projects that will define the next generation of electrified grill products for Napoleon to become carbon neutral. Passionate about electro-mechanical systems and products, the Mechatronics Engineer(ing) will lead the development of electro-mechanical grill products from concept to mass production.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Develop electro-mechanical systems from concept to mass production via the Stage Gate process.
- Become the subject matter expert in electro-mechanical systems, PCBs, controls, electrical components, and sensors for the Grills product team.
- Support the entire software and hardware development process, ranging from prototype code to validation, and eventually, QA testing.
- Conduct thermal and electrical analyses to optimize the overall product design and performance.
- Create models for concept approval, rapid prototyping, and detailed designs suitable for mass production (including simulation studies, tolerance studies, detailed drawings, specifications, and information necessary for product literature).
- Manage project(s) to ensure that technical, timing and cost risks to the product are properly assessed and managed to support flawless launches.
- Work closely with project launch managers to ensure an “on-time” effective production launch.
- Complete technical risk assessments on products, via DFMEA, DVP&R, DFA, DFM, and DFS.
- Evaluate technical options using scorecards and Pugh matrices where applicable.
- Troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems using Root Cause Analysis technics and tools (Fishbone, 5 Whys, etc.).
- Develop technical specifications and work closely with supply chain and external vendors.
Education and Experience:
- Must have University Degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar. A Master's Degree would be considered an asset.
- 3 years’ experience with embedded programming and electronics. Experience in electro-mechanical systems would be an asset.
- Experience in using 3D CAD/CAM modeling software (Solidworks, Catia, Fusion 360, etc.).
- Knowledge in electronics, including PCB layout design, manufacturing, programming, connectivity, software, and validation software (i.e. Multi-Sim, Altium Designer, etc.).
- Knowledge in programming languages, such as C / C++, Java, Python, and MatLab.
- Knowledge in thermal dynamics and heat transfer would be an asset.
- Knowledge in microcontrollers, sensing technologies, connectivity protocols (Wifi / Bluetooth), IOT, and communication prototypes (CAN, LIN, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including capability to drive senior / executive level meetings.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Works well in a team, is accountable, results-driven, and hands-on.
