THE POSITION

A leader in the Finance department, the Financial Controller, is strategic, detail oriented, and highly organized. This individual thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage competing priorities. The successful candidate is responsible for providing the strategic vision for accounting operations, implementing scalable processes and policies, and overseeing financial reporting. A key contributor to leveraging the capabilities of a new leading ERP/Accounting system, the Financial Controller is responsible for the delivery of day-to-day financial activities, with a focus on quality and building for the future. Aside from technical capabilities, you possess great interpersonal skills.

How You Will Be Making An Impact

  • Lead month end accounting processes for the organization.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury.
  • Coach and mentor accounting team, promoting ownership and a teaming culture.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, policies, and systems to improve accuracy of reporting and increase efficiency.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Overseeing monthly reconciliation GL accounts, banks, and credit cards.
  • Ensure the company is commodity tax compliant in both Canada and USA.
  • Design and implement internal controls.
  • Perform budget to actual analysis and investigate significant variances on a monthly basis.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of features in ERP solution and other software for the finance department.
  • Partner on cross-department corporate initiatives.
  • Communicate with external auditor and prepare annual audit working papers.

What Skills And Experience You Require

  • Minimum 5+ years’ progressive accounting experience and experience in a senior accounting role.
  • In-depth understanding of full cycle accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems, processes, standards, etc.
