Our Fleet Management Department is looking for a dedicated Welder I to join the team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and fabrication on various metals following blueprints, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Conduct repairs and modifications on equipment, machinery, and structural components as required.
  • Operate welding tools and equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders, plasma cutters, and grinders.
  • Operate and program CNC plasma cutting table according to job specifications.
  • Inspect and test welds to ensure quality, strength, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work orders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while following safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving welding-related issues.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, including mechanics and supervisors, to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and care of welding equipment and tools.
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols, including PPE usage and hazard identification.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet operational goals and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Welder Certification
  • Training courses and experience in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, trucks, buses, construction and agricultural equipment will be considered definite assets
  • Experience in diagnosis and repair of emergency vehicles would be considered a definite asset
  • Must be highly skilled in Oxy Acetylene, Stick, Mig and Tig welding equipment.
  • Previous experience operating a CNC plasma table or similar cutting equipment preferred.
  • Must be very experienced in maintenance welding of heavy equipment.
  • C.V.I.P. Inspection license will be required
  • Class 3 operators license will be required.
  • Automotive technician or HD certification would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Alberta driver's License (Class 3 with Air endorsement minimum or willing to obtain).
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with City employees and members of the general public.
  • Current first aid certificate will be concidered an asset.
  • Must be proficient with common computer programs such as e-mail.
  • On-call duties as required.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • All applicants selected for an interview must bring a current drivers abstract.
  • Must have tools of the trade.

Journeyman Welder : $46.59 per hour

Journeyman Welder with either Automotive or HD Journeyman certificate : $49.94

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting salary $46.59 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
