Purpose:
Athene has established a Canadian Service Company in order to continue to attract and develop professional talent and to support business units in the WDM and Bermuda locations. Reporting to the Actuary, this position is responsible for assisting with GAAP reporting for Bermuda entities.
Accountabilities:
- Manage and report on Athene’s inforce block of life and annuity business
- Produce quarterly GAAP results
- Communicate results to senior management and other stakeholders
- Build, maintain, and document detailed actuarial models
- Develop, document, execute, and review modeling and process controls
- Interface with other Actuarial functions and provide new business support as required
- Maintain and document actuarial assumptions and standards
- Analyze and critique client company assumptions and methodologies
- Interface with internal and external auditors to answer inquiries and facilitate the audit process
- Modernize and improve the financial reporting process to maximize accuracy and efficiency
- Validate and test new reporting models and results
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or any quantitative field
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (or equivalent organization) required with demonstrated progress towards Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries
- 5+ years’ experience working in the life insurance industry, preferably in annuities within a U.S. GAAP framework
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and any programming language
- Experience with python or SQL is beneficial
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage several projects
- Demonstrated desire to take initiative and run with projects
- Comfortable interacting with senior management
- Ability to view “big picture”, understand broad corporate impacts, and focus on company objectives
- Excellent oral and written English language skills
