RVA's London office is actively seeking a transportation technician who is looking for a role that can provide the opportunity to expand their experience and responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of transportation engineering, infrastructure and planning projects.
The London transportation team completes a variety of preliminary and detail design projects for a wide variety of clients. This role will afford the individual the opportunity to work closely with RVA’s project managers and other professionals across multiple disciplines.

RVA's London office is actively seeking a transportation technician who is looking for a role that can provide the opportunity to expand their experience and responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of transportation engineering, infrastructure and planning projects.
The London transportation team completes a variety of preliminary and detail design projects for a wide variety of clients. This role will afford the individual the opportunity to work closely with RVA’s project managers and other professionals across multiple disciplines.
Duties
Under a transportation project manager or engineer:
- Undertake preliminary and final designs for major road infrastructure projects, including stormwater management, utility relocation management and property requirements.
- Prepare design drawings using Civil3D and OpenRoads.
- Develop tender documents, reports, and specifications.
- Complete quantity calculations and develop cost estimates.
- Develop construction drawings such as pavement markings, signage, traffic management and detour plans utilizing appropriate standards (e.g. Ontario Traffic Manuals).
- Develop construction drawings such as plan/profile, typical sections, design cross-sections utilizing appropriate standards (e.g., TAC guidelines, City/Municipal design standards).
- Undertake Quality Control to confirm the design meets TAC/MTO standards, client’s requirements and RVA’s Quality Management system.
- Undertake field work such as site investigations, traffic data collection and utility investigations.
- Undertake review of constructed work as part of the Contract Administration Team.
- Undertake business travel upon request.
- Assist technical staff with additional duties as assigned.
- A College Diploma in Civil/Transportation Engineering Technology (with a transportation focus).
- Qualified to practice in Ontario as a Certified Engineering Technologist, or eligible to be qualified within 12 months.
- 2-4 years of experience in conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of transportation projects, including quantities and contract specifications is essential.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License – Class G and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Knowledge and application of principles of geometric road design and traffic engineering (e.g. TAC, OTM etc.).
- Proficient in the use of Civil3D and InRoads/OpenRoads in development of design drawings.
- Aptitude for meeting schedule and budgets, working with clients, approval agencies and contractors.
- Demonstrates superior oral and written English communication skills.
