How You Will Contribute

Ciena’s Photonic Systems team has an exciting learning opportunity for a motivated high-school student planning to attend university. You will build software tools to interpret and visualize data associated with experiments and product test/characterization. You will leverage your analytical skills and expertise in at least one programming language, preferably C/C++ and/or Python.

Primary duties and responsibilities: 

• Learn the theory of operation of optical networking systems, including fiber optic basics, filters, amplifiers and measurement techniques
• Collect data from the optical network elements through REST APIs
• Organize, manipulate and analyze how optical signal powers evolve over the network
• Explore different ways of displaying the data to enable insights and understanding
• Work with product experts to identify opportunities for improving the accuracy and presentation of the measurements
  
  

The Must Haves

• High-school coursework covering algebra
• Proficiency in programming in Python or C/C++, demonstrated through achievement in coursework, extra-curricular activities or past internships
• Motivation and capability to learn new technologies 
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

The annual pay range for this position is $18.75-33.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business.
