What it's all about:

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Canadian Finance team. Reporting to our North American Controller, the Senior Accountant will support day-to-day and general accounting functions for all WSA legal entities. This is a multi-faceted position and is an ideal career move for finance professionals with experience in a growing and matrixed organization.

This is a full-time permanent position based in Burlington, ON in a hybrid working model. Some infrequent travel within North America for events or meetings can be expected (>10%).

What you'll do:

  • Perform day-to-day accounting functions
  • Using your in-depth knowledge of AP and general accounting functions, assist the Controller in the preparation of all the financial statements for all the legal entities.
  • Carry out assigned duties as directed by the Controller to enable a smooth operation and administration of any associated financial matters pertaining to the Company.
  • Prepare re-classes and adjustments as required and submit and monitor GSD tickets
  • ICC billings to other affiliates; review and communicate loan interest entries
  • Review and approve all ReconSmart requests for timely month and year end close
  • Monthly Sales Tax filings for Canada and US and assist with audits
  • Prepare Internal controls
  • Prepare quarterly balance sheet reporting package
  • Monthly Trend review to ensure accuracy and completeness before close of books
  • Review and request updates to bi-weekly forecasts in Coupa (Treasury tool)
  • Monthly balance sheet accounts reconciliations
  • Monthly financial reporting and variance analysis
  • Provide analysis reports to various local department leaders as requested
  • Assist in coordinating deliverables and meeting all deadlines
  • Support global finance requests and adhere to global deadlines
  • Analytically review tasks and processes for solutions to drive efficiencies
  • Support with Inter-company reconciliation and analysis
  • Support and backup for provision/reserve calculation and analysis
  • Support the internal tax team and external tax firm re annual Corp Tax Filing, NR Tax Filing,
  • Provide training to new and existing Business Services resources as needed and cross training within onshore team
  • Maintain financial processes and procedures
  • Suggest improvements to internal control procedures to maintain accurate and consistent accounting and reporting
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with various departments
  • Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
  • Assist in preparing of Audits examination as required
  • Performing monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analyses
  • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
  • Ensuring that all accounting records are accurate and in balance
  • Investigating and resolving outstanding issues as required

What you'll bring:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, ideally at the Bachelor's Level in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business, Economics, or another related field combined with direct experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in general accounting
  • CA, CMA or CGA designation deemed an asset
  • Direct experience in month end reporting, compilation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages
  • Technical proficiency with experience adopting and leveraging new tools; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Experience with Accpac, HARP, and Coupa would be a definite asset.
  • Highly organized, able to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
  • High attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in order to meet strict deadlines
  • Highly motivated and focused team player
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to handle internal and external audits
  • Bilingual in English & French would be an asset
