Gore Mutual is growing our commercial insurance business and we are making significant investments in our people and technology. We would like our prospective SME underwriter to be a sales-oriented Underwriter who can manage a pipeline of new business and renewals. We are looking for applicants with sales experience, strong communication skills, and a track record of meeting and exceeding sales goals.

As a Commercial Senior Underwriter, you will help our brokers and customers by creating unique and tailored solutions that manage the risk of our everchanging business world. You’ll have the chance to refine your commercial underwriting skills in an environment that recognizes performance and care for our customers. You will be supporting broker inquiries via phone call and emails while managing your own workflows.


What will you do?

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be portfolio underwriting for our broker partners with a focus on growth and profitability. You will also have the opportunity to share your expertise through coaching, training, and mentoring. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, curiosity and an entrepreneurial spirit.


What will you need to succeed?

  • A minimum of 7 years’ property and casualty underwriting experience in medium to complex risks
  • University degree, college diploma or equivalent experience
  • Enrollment in or completion of the CIP and/or FCIP
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive business partnerships with brokers
  • Ability to be comfortable with change while also promoting change to continuously improve the team’s operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Takes the initiative to participate in supporting ongoing transformational projects within Commercial Lines
  • Proficient underwriting skills, sound judgement, decision making and analytical ability
  • Results oriented, driven by objectives, with ability to meet challenging deadlines
  • High degree of collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimum supervision
  • Proficient skill with computer applications including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Occasional travel may be required to meet with broker partners
