Job Description

Job Title: Manager, Terminal Operations

Job Summary

The Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the operations department in order to obtain optimum and effective us of equipment, facilities, and human resources related to the daily commitments to internal and external customers. 

Responsibility

Ensure operational KPI’s are created and aligned to overall facility and company needs. 

Lead development of workforce and leadership capabilities in line with business growth objectives. 

Serve as a coordinating resource for management in the daily operation and functions of the dispatch process under the direction of the General Manager. 

Implement systems to manage, initiate, control, and direct the activities of staff, drivers, and equipment in the operations area. 

Responsible for effective employee relations including handling employee complaints, obtaining help and guidance for employees with major problems and awareness of Canada Labour Code and Human Rights Legislation. 

Work closely with HR to ensure all employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, National Safety Code, Ontario Highway traffic Act, and those within Company Policy. 

Support, and maintain department lean initiatives as set out in LPS system requirements. 

Attend customer and carrier meetings to address concerns and formulate resolutions efficiently and effectively. 

Participate in weekly POC meetings and facilitate departmental meetings. 

Research means of reducing operational costs through efficiencies, improved technology and elimination of waste. 

Academic/Educational Requirements

A university degree in business administration or related field or combination of education/relevant work. 

Required Skills/Experience

Seven to ten years of experience in transportation operations, including supervisory and/or operator experience (truck driver, dispatch, etc.). 

Ability to confidently communicate with customers regarding products, processing and problem solving. 

Must be capable of developing reports by extracting, manipulating, and analyzing data from systems. 

Ability to use various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to track expenses and run projections. 

Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and activities. 

Engage in ongoing learning through participating in professional organizations, seminars, formal courses, conferences, and trade shows. Upgrade skills by attending conferences and networking functions, by liaising with industry associations. 

Sense of urgency with a strong customer focus
