Job Summary:
The Mechanical Drafting Technician is responsible for assisting in the design layout and production drawings for mechanical systems and equipment. This role will include coordination with other internal departments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design Assistance: Collaborate with engineers and designers to assist in developing design layouts for mechanical systems and equipment. This involves interpreting design concepts and translating them into detailed technical drawings.
- Production Drawings: Create accurate and detailed production drawings that adhere to industry standards and specifications. This includes the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce 2D and 3D models.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all drawings and designs. Ensure that all documents are up-to-date and accessible to relevant team members and departments.
- Internal Coordination: Work closely with other internal departments such as engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure that designs are feasible, efficient, and meet all necessary requirements. When required participate in technical / sale meetings to ensure the feasibility of the project considering the overall design of the equipment.
- Revisions and Updates: Incorporate changes and updates to designs as needed, based on feedback from engineering teams or project managers. This may involve revising existing drawings or creating new ones.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure that all drawings and designs comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and company guidelines. Working efficiently, safely and follow NOV Safety policies. Maintains all company information as confidential.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address potential design issues, proposing solutions and improvements to enhance the overall quality and functionality of mechanical systems. Monitoring fabrication of equipment to ensure design intent is met and offer feedback on improving designs.
- Communication: Effectively communicate design ideas and changes to various stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding across different departments. Provide estimates to Engineering Manager on completion of drawings and inform them of any concerns of project deadline concerns.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality checks and reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission for approval or production. Measure and sketch components working within the Quality Assurance to establish guidelines for manufacturing and implementing Quality Control.
- Additional: All other assigned or associated tasks and duties to help meet or exceed the customer expectations and company goals.
- Completion of a two-year design and drafting course or equivalent.
- Experience in the design and operation of oilfield service equipment is an asset.
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD software is required.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
- Strong organizational, prioritization and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to work well under pressure, multi-task and work efficiently against deadlines.
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment and as part of an overall team.
