Role Manager, Taxation

Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Taxation to join our finance team. The Manager, Taxation will report to the Director, Financial Reporting and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance and planning for the organization. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Canadian tax laws and regulations, strong technical expertise, and a proven track record of managing tax functions in a corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial (state), and local tax laws and regulations in both Canada and the United States as applicable. Assist with preparing and reviewing working papers required to file various corporate tax returns within deadlines specified by government authorities. Perform a deep dive into processes surrounding GST/HST, PST, Luxury Tax and other US state taxes across the group to ensure compliance with legislation. Review tax calculations and assessments for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide support to third-party tax advisor for filing of T2s by compiling required information and collaborate with the Financial Reporting group to prepare required working papers
  • Work with the Financial Reporting team to transition and take ownership of compliance related responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following
    • Stub T2s, as required, upon wind-up / acquisition / amalgamation
    • Country-by-Country (C-b-C) reporting
    • Excessive Interest and Financing Expenses Limitation (EIFEL)
    • Global minimum tax
    • Bump elections
    • S. tax filings
    • GST elections (RC4616 / GST 44)
    • Tax estimates / installment payments
    • ‘Represent a client’ access
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax related inquires and correspondence from government authorities. Assist with responses to audit and review queries, ensure accuracy of subsequent assessments and coordinate appeals/objections as necessary. Facilitate rolling out changes in process and/or educational sessions with Controllers upon review of findings following completion of CRA engagements.
    • Transfer Pricing Manage transfer pricing policies and documentation in accordance with Canadian and international transfer pricing regulations. Ensure compliance with arm's length principles and maintain documentation to support transfer pricing practices.
    • Tax Provision Oversee the preparation of tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with IFRS or Canadian GAAP. Coordinate with external auditors on tax-related matters and provide support for tax audits and inquiries.
    • Tax Research Stay abreast of changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings that may impact the organization. Conduct tax research and analysis to assess the implications of new tax developments and advise management on potential risks and opportunities.
    • Relationship Management Build and maintain relationships with external tax advisors, government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.


    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
    • 5 years of progressive experience in tax roles, ideally with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership position.
    • In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws, regulations, and principles.
    • Strong technical expertise in tax compliance, planning, and strategy.
    • Experience with tax provision calculations and financial reporting requirements.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax issues and provide practical solutions.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
