The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Canada Financial Planning and Analysis, this role is a key member of the Canada Finance Team, responsible for supporting a variety of financial activities including budget planning and consolidation, forecasting, building financial models and templates, assisting with financial planning, and preparing presentations and special analysis for the consolidated Canada division.

Responsibilities:

Long Range Planning

  • Develop/support Canada’s 5-year model which will integrate with Parkland’s Enterprise FP&A and Strategy team. The model will be used to model growth opportunities and identify risks, allocate capital at the segment level, evaluate strategic alignment, and provide recommendation(s) to Canadian Leadership Team (“CLT”)
  • Help drive continuous business improvement by pro-actively analyzing operational results and identifying key business/market trends and opportunities

Monthly / Quarterly Reporting and Forecasting

  • Collaborating with Business Partners teams in developing their respective forecasts and scenario analysis
  • Prepare/support CLT and Board reporting package(s) with executive-level explanations of operational results, business/market trends and recommendation(s) to manage material variances
  • Prepare/support high level reports and commentary related to quarterly MD&A analysis
  • Prepare/support with Quarterly business reviews for the Canadian division
  • Prepare consolidated monthly Canada Reporting and associated commentary
  • Prepare/support reporting of Canadian Capital and associated budget tracking
  • Support in leading the Canadian division in the preparation of the rolling 24-month forecast process with a focus on continuously improving accuracy and usefulness

Annual Budgeting Process

  • Assist in consolidating the P&L budget/planning process for Canada, including the impact to the balance sheet and cash flow
  • Assist in the capital budgeting process, ranking projects by strategic priority and expected return
  • Assist in developing a detailed presentation of budget assumptions, key business drivers and variances to relevant periods for the SLT and Board

Adhoc

  • Development of standardized models / templates to be used across the Canadian divisions when preparing monthly reviews, capital expenditure requests, and providing guidance on various presentations
  • Assist in special project analysis to be presented to various levels of leadership
  • Proactively identify CI opportunities to optimize reporting, resolve finance defects and improve, scale, or simplify finance tools across teams and divisions
  • Performing external benchmarking analysis

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or economics with 2-3 years of experience in a relevant strategic Corporate Finance role (e.g., FP&A, Corporate Development, Investor Relations), Consulting or Investment Banking
  • Enrolled in the following programs: Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA), MBA or CFA
  • Working knowledge of Oracle EPM (previously Hyperion), Power BI, Thinkcell and Tableau Business Intelligence tools considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint including the ability to manipulate large volumes of data and extract value-added information from multiple databases
  • Ability to develop relationships across departments and cultivate a collaborative approach to decision-making
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information, strong organizational skills
  • Keen interest in understanding the key business drivers of the Divisions and challenging pre-conceived interpretations of the impact of operational events and decisions on the financial results
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze and critique complex financial models
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, ever-changing environment and deal with confidential, time-sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
