PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist – Hydrogen Locomotive Field Testing is responsible for supporting the execution of mainline testing of hydrogen locomotives with the Calgary, AB region. The position is responsible for supporting all aspects of the in-service testing including, but not limited to: scheduling, physical on-board monitoring, repair/modification, refueling and refueling monitoring, safety inspections, and working with the engineering technical team to drive improvements. The successful candidate will support coordination between hydrogen management and technical staff in addition to the mechanical locomotive, operations, procurement, and other departments. The candidate will be also responsible for participation in and supporting field testing of the locomotives in addition to working with various vendors to integrate CPKC’s control system with their existing systems and components. The candidate will collect and consolidate operating and performance data and prepare presentations for technical reviews with high-level stakeholders and regulators .

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Project management to ensure timely testing schedules are established and executed
- Support all aspects of mainline testing high horsepower hydrogen locomotives
- Coordinate maintenance and inspections tasks with mechanical group
- Coordinate with refueling facility staff to ensure timely refueling
- Schedule mainline tests and inform local operations to include test locomotives in train
- Coordinate locomotive hydrogen refueling
- Ensure zero injuries and demonstrate safety leadership within operations and hydrogen
- Perform hands-on regulated inspections and repairs
- Gain knowledge of shop safety management systems (ex. lock-out, tag-out)
- Download and plot data to present results
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Diesel mechanic and/or mechanical background an asset
- Locomotive engineer or conductor qualified an asset Strong industry experience performing analysis and drilldowns using available data is required
- Experience in railroad operations and mechanical locomotive shops
- Experience in fuel hydrogen fuel dispensing and safety practices
- Experience in zero-emission technologies including batteries, fuel cells
- Experience with DC/AC locomotive traction systems and on-board locomotive equipment including, but not limited to:
- Distributed Power, Integrated Processor Modules, Relay Interface Modules, Wi-Tronix, Positive Train Control, Experience in Programmable Logic Controllers is asset Must be proficient with MS Office (specifically Word and Excel)
- Hands-on experience field experience
- Other practical hands-on experience (automotive repair, robotics, furniture) an asset
- Ability to travel mostly to domestic locations and respond to calls occasionally after hours and on weekends
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Valid passport, ability to travel to United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia without restrictions.
