Job Description

SCRUM Master

The Scrum Master is responsible for promoting and supporting Scrum methodology and discipline across various teams. This includes onboarding stakeholders in the process and keeping them engaged. The Scrum Master is expected to lead Scrum teams, facilitate Scrum events and to coach the team to higher levels of Scrum maturity.

Role And Responsibilities

Scrum Framework Implementation

  • Ensure that the team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and rules.
  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-up, sprint review, and retrospective).
  • Foster an environment where the Scrum Team can operate effectively.
  • In collaboration with product owners, proactively manage Risks, Assumptions, Actions, Issues, Decision and Dependencies (RAAIDD)
  • Remove impediments to the Scrum Team’s progress.

Team Coaching and Development

  • Coach the Scrum Team in self-organization and cross-functionality.
  • Help the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value Increments that meet the “Definition of Done.”

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Assist the Product Owner in effective product backlog management.
  • Help the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise product backlog items.
  • Facilitate stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Coach the organization in its Scrum adoption.
  • Plan and advise Scrum implementations within the organization.
  • Facilitate regular and effective team retrospectives to foster continuous improvement.

Major Challenges

  • Overcoming resistance to Scrum practices.
  • Managing and planning in an environment where resources have multiple assignments and are rarely dedicated to one project.
  • Ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders.

Success Measures

  • Increased team productivity and efficiency.
  • Improved quality of deliverables.
  • Enhanced team dynamics and collaboration.
  • Positive feedback from team members and stakeholders.
  • Augment predictability of the outcomes

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent Scrum certification (SAFe framework preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar role in Agile teams.
  • Deep understanding of Scrum and Agile principles.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and procedures.
  • Very Good verbal and written communication skills (Bilingualism English, and French an asset) English will be used in particular to implement various projects or training courses across our various offices, including those outside Quebec;
  • Excellent communication and mentoring abilities.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and transparent team environment.
  • Occasional travel between offices is expected.
