Position Summary

The Sous Chef will serve as a key support to the Executive Chef, assisting in the leadership of the culinary team and overseeing the preparation and delivery of high-quality dining experiences, including those for the patio, restaurant, and special events. This role requires a strong focus on maintaining Arterra's culinary standards, ensuring that each dish aligns with the winery's brand strategy and enhances the experience of our premium VQA wines. The Sous Chef may also assist with offsite catering as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of food delivery for patio, restaurant, and special events, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Ensure all food is prepared in compliance with winery standards and health regulations, maintaining the highest levels of quality, consistency, and presentation.
  • Provide professional customer service, contributing to a memorable dining experience for guests.
  • Supervise line cooks and kitchen assistants, ensuring adherence to established kitchen procedures and standards.
  • Assist with offsite catering as required, maintaining the same level of quality and service.
  • Support the Chef in daily operations, including menu development and kitchen management tasks.
  • Represent the winery at offsite events, maintaining a professional image and promoting the winery's culinary offerings.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Certification.
  • 3-5 years of professional culinary experience in a similar setting.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership abilities, with a focus on fostering a positive and collaborative kitchen environment.
  • Expertise in various cooking methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs and the ability to modify menus to accommodate them.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and service.
  • Ambitious, goal-oriented, and driven to succeed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Wine knowledge is an asset but not a requirement (training will be provided).
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Food Safe Handler’s Certification.

Compensation: $24/hour plus gratuities
