Position Summary:


We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant II to join our dynamic finance team. This role is responsible for analyzing and managing cost data to support financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate has a manufacturing accounting background (general aviation manufacturing experience is a strong plus) and is proficient in Business Central, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel (including macros). Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Navision 2005, SQL, or Python is a plus but not required. A strong understanding of IFRS and ASPE financial reporting is essential. While a CMA/CPA is preferred, it is not required.


Key Responsibilities:


Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis

  • Maintain and analyze cost structures for manufacturing operations, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost and labor capacity estimates for existing products.
  • Monitor overhead, labor, and material costs, refining costing procedures to more accurately absorb overhead and indirect costs.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual cost accounting close activities.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, ASPE, and company accounting policies.

KPI Development & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure manufacturing and financial performance.
  • Design and generate Power BI reports to provide actionable insights for management.
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and cross-functional teams to improve data-driven decision-making.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize Business Central ERP for cost accounting, reporting, budgeting, and process automation.
  • Leverage Microsoft Excel (including macros, pivot tables, and data modeling) to streamline data analysis.
  • Work with Power BI, SQL, or Python to automate and enhance reporting and financial analytics.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize financial processes and internal controls.

Inventory & Cost Controls

  • Analyze and reconcile inventory balances, including cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing cost control strategies to improve profitability.
  • Collaborate with procurement, production, and finance teams to ensure cost accuracy.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in annual budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • Provide cost analysis to support pricing decisions, cost reduction initiatives, and margin improvement.
  • Work with operations teams to develop cost models and improve efficiency.


Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment (general aviation experience is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, IFRS, ASPE financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Navision 2005 is a plus but not required).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including macros, pivot tables, and data modeling.
  • Experience with Power BI (SQL or Python is a plus).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • CMA or CPA certification is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage high volumes of work.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in complex financial situations.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with manufacturing cost structures, inventory management, and standard costing.
  • Knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively present financial insights to management.
  • Understanding of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
