As the Security Architect with Payworks, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing our security engineering, design and architecture best practices. Championing Payworks’ Information Security principles, you will lead the identification and mitigation of security risks while designing and implementing robust security systems to protect the business from evolving threats. You will also monitor our IT infrastructure, proactively respond to security alerts and address requests beyond the Corporate Security Team.

DESIGN AND ARCHITECT SECURE SOLUTIONS – IT’S WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and Implement Secure Architecture – You will lead the development of secure IT architecture solutions that align with business needs, existing architectures, enterprise standards and industry best practices. Ensuring a proactive approach to security, you will assess and mitigate security risks across integrated technologies and cloud environments. You will also develop security specifications for new products, applications and services while supporting incident response efforts to enforce policies that prevent security threats.
- Manage Identity, Access & Threats – You will oversee user access and permissions to maintain a secure and efficient identity management system. In collaboration with the Security Operations Center team, you will provide second-level support for security incidents and monitor potential vulnerabilities to reduce risks. To strengthen Payworks’ security posture, you will oversee the seamless integration and management of security tools including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint detection and response (EDR/XDR), email security, privilege access management, data loss prevention and firewalls.
- Implement Best Practices – Leveraging your knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, you will develop, review, and enforce security policies, standards, and incident response procedures. You will also conduct third party risk assessments, security audits, ensuring alignment with industry standards (CIS, SOC1, SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST), regulatory requirements, and Payworks audit and compliance objectives.
- Drive Innovation – You will develop and maintain an incident response plan to mitigate security breaches. Lead security awareness initiatives, tabletop exercises, and stakeholder engagement efforts to reinforce a strong security culture within the organization. If incidents occur, you will help lead investigations and coordinate response efforts to minimize impact. Staying ahead of emerging threats, technologies, and industry trends will be crucial, as our teams will look to you as a subject matter expert. Your expertise will allow you to provide strategic security guidance to ensure that Payworks’ projects, infrastructure and technology roadmap remain secure and resilient against evolving cyber threats.
- Collaborate and Engage – Working closely with other IT Architects, Privacy, IT Infrastructure, DevOps, Development and other stakeholders, you will ensure security and privacy is embedded in our projects from inception. You will offer guidance on secure architecture, encompassing areas such as identity and access management, encryption, and network security.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- University Degree or College degree within the IT Security field, combined with extensive experience in information security and IT risk management, focusing on security, performance and reliability.
- 10+ years in Security Operations Center (SOC) roles, with proven experience in security event triage, incident response and forensic analysis, and vulnerability management.
- Expert working knowledge of secure network communications, common protocols and services, and best practices for risk mitigation and secure implementation.
- Knowledge of the enterprise information technology (IT) architectural concepts and design patterns, cloud infrastructure and security architecture best practices.
- Experience implementing different security solutions such as multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, identity management, SIEM, endpoint security, email security, network UTM or related technologies.
- Strong working knowledge of current IT risks, security threats, and effective strategies to implement robust security solutions.
- Understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery continuity plans, risks and strategy.
- Ability to break down complex security concepts and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences, from technical to management teams.
- Willingness to mentor, share technical expertise, and collaborate with peers to strengthen the organization’s security posture.
- Knowledge of security control frameworks, such as CIS 8.1 and CCM CSA 4.
- Strong analysis, management, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Familiarity with tools and techniques related to preventing intrusions and system vulnerabilities.
