Purpose

The Director, FP&A reports to the Chief Financial Officer and provides overall direction for financial planning, analysis, forecasting, budgeting and procurement. The Director provides financial expertise, guidance, and insights across the business, and contributes to Board reporting.

The Director participates in development, planning, and execution of the company’s annual budgets and strategic plans. They lead the financial planning and analysis team to ensure the company’s financial management strategy is implemented effectively in accordance with company guidelines, financial regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities

OVERALL

  • Plan, direct, and lead the FP&A function to support the Executive leadership team, leveraging a strong background in business support and financial modeling.
  • Act as a key financial partner to the business by providing expert financial analysis, insights, and reporting.
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the Senior Leadership Team and the Board; make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
  • Continually assess and drive initiatives, working towards improving organizational performance whilst keeping in mind the annual budget and Company’s long-term strategy.

Finance And Other Related

Financial Management, Analysis and Reporting:

  • Provide business partnership to all levels of the leadership team.
  • Research and prepare capital planning model and lead evaluation of large projects, including ROI reporting.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process with all functional team leaders, and on a monthly basis provide feedback to leaders on results vs budget.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide actionable insights to support strategic initiatives and operational efficiency.
  • Lead period reforecasts on a rolling basis for the business, as new information or trends become available.
  • Provide comprehensive analysis of the company’s financial results and develop strategic/tactical recommendations.
  • Lead 5-year strategic model including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow and key financial indicators.
  • Prepare Board materials on Budget, Forecast, Capital Approvals with commentary, as appropriate.
  • Identify and report on new or emerging trends and opportunities for business. Develop and present financial implications of related business initiatives, including opportunities for cost savings or efficiencies or transformation.
  • Lead implementation of reporting and insights tools leveraging data; including automating reporting of KPI’s, thereby helping leaders of each function manage their business more effectively.
  • Lead optimization following implementation of new FP&A reporting system under NetSuite.
  • Complete other due diligence ad-hoc reporting, analysis and strategic planning, as required.

Yield Optimization

  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team, establish and maintain a yield management strategy and program including pricing, promotions and inventory management activities.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis and profitability focused reporting of various revenue streams (routes, services, channels, etc.); highlighting opportunities for enhancing margins or shifting focus for future sales.

Capital Planning

  • Establish and lead the Capital Committee to review ROI for all capex projects.
  • Lead the FP&A team to track actuals vs budget and rolling forecast.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Procurement teams to provide relevant RFP/RFQ related evaluations, as needed.
  • Support ROI analysis and business benefits, or lease vs buy decisions, as needed.

Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the FP&A team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging open communication and teamwork.
  • Drive strategic initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Represent the finance function in cross-functional teams and projects, providing financial insights and guidance.
  • Develop and implement best practices, policies, and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, maintaining the highest level of integrity and ethical standards.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Knowledge

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Professional designation in Finance or Accounting (CPA, CFA).
  • Completion of an MBA is an asset.

Experience

  • 10+ years in a related position with finance, accounting, treasury and/or tax experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in business leadership, driving strategic changes and operational efficiencies from a leadership position.
  • Experience in leading corporate initiatives such as structure changes, capital financing, M&A, corporate or business development initiatives.
  • Experience modeling 5 year forecasted cashflow.

Skills

  • Strong ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the organization's goals.
  • Leadership skills: Proven successful manager, leading change, helping coach and mentor employees to help them reach their full potential.
  • Technical skills: proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting techniques, and financial software systems.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail, reporting on underlying variances to help the business understand trends and opportunities for optimization or improvement.
  • Broad exposure to FP&A reporting tools, as well as business operating, sales, HR and Finance systems and how Power BI or other reporting tools can produce actionable insights.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - strong ability to articulate clearly, thoroughly and in a timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Solid ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to proactively drive process and quality improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid role with minimum 3 days in office based in Vancouver.

Compensation

  • The base salary offered for this role is $150,000 to $180,000 per annum and can vary based on job-related expertise, qualifications, experience and internal equity.
  • Eligible for Rocky Mountaineer’s discretionary bonus program
