Position Overview

Reporting to the Manger, Environment Reporting and Permitting, and working closely with other environmental professionals at both the Calgary office and Ekati site, the Environment Advisor’s primary responsibility is to perform environmental data management, analysis and reporting for Burgundy corporate office and the Ekati Diamond Mine. The successful candidate will be required to work a 5x2 rotation, Monday to Friday, at the Yellowknife office, with regular travel to the Ekati mine site and Indigenous communities and general travel as dictated by business needs.


Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze available environmental data, including but not limited to, water level and flow, water quality, air quality and meteorology, soil, vegetation, aquatics, and wildlife
  • Create and maintain water balance, water quality and air quality databases
  • Update and maintain the document management system and geospatial (GIS) databases
  • Contribute to or lead preparation of environmental management plans, regulatory compliance reports and corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reports
  • Provide technical reviews on surface and ground water, air quality modelling and studies reports
  • Manage and direct technical consultants on relevant environmental studies and projects
  • Provide occasional field supports, including but not limited to, air and water sampling, aquatics and wildlife monitoring
  • Provide assistance during regulatory approval and community engagement events
  • Present monitoring and study findings to internal and external stakeholders


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Engineer (B.Eng.) in relevant environmental fields
  • Working knowledge on Excel programing, relevant database management and modelling software
  • 5+ years of technical experience involving environmental data management and analysis
  • Master’s Degree and/or relevant professional designation would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge on geospatial data management tools (ArcGIS) would be considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the mining industry, working in northern Canada, and the Northwest Territories regulatory framework.


The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage a wide variety of activities while meeting established deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on projects from conception to completion and to work collaboratively and interact respectfully with people from internal departments and external organizations.

Additional Information

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
