This role sits within Laurentian Bank Securities.

The Laurentian Bank Securities (LBS) Institutional Fixed Income team is responsible for facilitating and issuing transactions in Canadian fixed income securities: government bonds, provincial bonds, corporate bonds and mortgage pools. Its activities cover large institutional asset managers, pension funds, as well as bank bonds and insurance, and contribute to Laurentian Bank's development through short- and long-term receivables.

The intern will work closely with the sales and trading team on research projects that will help our team facilitate customer transactions and identify deal opportunities. This period of work will enable the student to gain excellent experience of the Canadian fixed income market: market making, how different types of clients make decisions, how economic data and issues move markets, how governments and corporations issue debt, and much more.

Responsibilities

  • Create analytical tools such as constant maturity curves and option pricing models.
  • Research links between asset classes and transaction dynamics in different plans.
  • Maintain issue tables and transaction notes.
  • Maintain transaction notes and customer intentions.
  • Analyze economic data and create tools to monitor trends.
  • Create diagrams (interest rate curves, swaps, spreads).

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate studies in a relevant bachelor's or graduate studies
  • Intellectual curiosity, determination and initiative
  • Ability to analyze complex problems rigorously and break them down into manageable components
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of fixed-income securities and mathematical or programming skills an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/VBA
  • Experience with Bloomberg desirable, an asset
