Reporting to the Cafeteria Supervisor, the Second Cook will be responsible for completing daily production assigned by the Food and Beverage Manger based on weekly menu and to assist with all aspects of food production and preparation.

Shift: 2:00pm to 10:30pm

What You Will Be Doing

  • Prepares food items in accordance with standards of quality, in accordance with the weekly Cafeteria menu. Prepares soups, salads, daily specials and other food and/or beverage as requested by the Food & Beverage Manager.
  • Prevents the spoiling and/or contamination of food, through the diligent proper hygiene practices and safe food handling.
  • Assists Kitchen Supervisor with daily cooking and prep
  • Relieve Kitchen Supervisor when on vacation or off for the day
  • Relieve other position when need too (Cashier, Server)
  • Assists Cafeteria staff with dishwashing duties as required.
  • Ensures work area is always clean and orderly, participating in regular kitchen cleanup. Ensures and that equipment is in safe working order and reports equipment malfunctions to the Food & Beverage Manager.
  • Complies with all Company policies, including but not limited to those regarding schedules, uniforms, absenteeism and tardiness.
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures
  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of improved department processes, policies and procedures.

What You Will Bring

  • A minimum of two years' experience and in-service training as a Cook in kitchens handling quantity cooking; or completion of a recognized course in culinary arts.
  • Excellent customer service skills, and experience in customer service preferred;
  • Experience with handling cash an asset;
  • Good knowledge of principles and quantity cooking and experience in quantity cooking of vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, baked goods, etc., utilizing standardized metric recipes. Good knowledge of food service sanitation standards, personal hygiene and safety.
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
  • General computer skills (e.g. MS Office).
  • High School Diploma
  • Current Food Safety Certificate an asset
