We are seeking out hard-working and motivated individuals to join our Materials Technology Team at our Peterborough location. You will join a team of enthusiastic and dedicated technicians while operating under the supervision and mentorship of our civil and geotechnical engineering professionals.

This is an entry-level contract position, but intermediate and senior roles are available based on your experience and technical certifications within this service line. Full-time positions are based on availability and seasonal demands.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Completion of Quality Assurance and Quality Control laboratory testing services within the Peterborough laboratory facility.
  • Occasional support of field tasks that would require field activities is possible, as well as sample delivery or pickup activities requiring driving to/from locations in Southern Ontario.
  • Testing of soil, aggregate, asphalt, and/or concrete samples (building materials) to determine engineering properties.
  • Testing procedures could include standard proctor testing, grain size analysis, determination of moisture content, and compressive strength testing of concrete cylinders. Assisting in the asphalt laboratory is also a possibility.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Preference for enrollment in, or graduating from, a civil, geotechnical, or engineering program. Other relevant education and industry work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service communication skills.
  • The capacity and willingness to learn new skills and testing procedures.
  • Access to a personal vehicle and possessing a valid driver’s license to carry out daily site inspections is recommended.

Expectations:

  • Competent with the use of Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to lift and carry 23.7 kg (50 lbs.)
  • Willingness to work a regular 40-hour work week and possible overtime up to a limit of 13 hours total per day.

Compensation:

  • Hourly compensation at market rates.
  • Reimbursement per kilometer for the use of your personal vehicle at rates adhering to schedule by the Canadian Revenue Agency.
